Before continuing I’d like to take a moment’s worth of appreciation to you for having gotten this far with me in our brief analogy of Who and What a Christian really is. As well I’d also love to point out that since grace is such a long and detailed subject I do have a separate book where I go over the subject of grace called “Understanding Grace”—it’s in the same book collection as “Understanding Faith” and a series of other books such as “Understanding Prayer” and “Understanding Authority” and hence the similarities in naming conventions. So I strongly urge you to keep an eye out for these books, each of these books will be released exactly four weeks apart.
So then, let’s get into this.
WHAT IT IS GRACE?
So the word “Grace” means a broad array of spiritual gifts and describes the whole of God’s activity toward us. To say grace is simply a gift comes nowhere near close to exhausting its meaning.
So the generic definition of grace that we have conventionally is “unmerited favor” right? But as we have discovered so far in this is book there are so many Biblical stereotypes developed, spread, and nourished by individuals (and sometimes even ministers and ministries) who don’t necessarily have the clearest of understanding on truths as complex as salvation, righteousness, grace and the such.
So that generic definition of “Grace” is good, yes—but very highly inconclusive. Of course Grace is unmerited favor but that too is a matter of perspective (i.e. that definition is looking at Grace from the negative aspect) because Grace is synonymous to six other major truths that will just blow your mind.
I first began to learn about Grace and its spiritual and physical secrets and applications around March of 2014 and after spending nearly a year (from March 2014 to around February of 2015) painstakingly researching and understanding it, I began putting this to work and trust me brothers and sisters, this stuff works: take them seriously. I came to an understanding of it and realized the best way to think of Grace is to picture God in the beginning planning out blessings for his children.
Now, personally, I picture it went something like “Hmm, I wonder, I’ve created every single blessings that my children will require to reign in the coming days and it’s good, but I would much rather make it even easier for them to attain all of these blessings more quickly and easily without any much hustle: something more like a master blessing if you will. I’ve got it! I’ll take six of my greatest blessings and gift wrap them into one massive package of blessings which I’ll call ‘Grace’. So that way whenever my children need anything and they don’t really have so much understanding on other more complex blessings, they could just open up this package and choose from these six blessings which one they need”
So there you have it ladies and gentlemen, that’s my perspective on how I assume it went down in the beginning when constructing the blessing of Grace in the mind of the Lord my God. So without further ado, here are the six blessings synonymously used to mean Grace in the Bible:
Acceptability: meaning regardless of wherever you go, grace will attract people, materials and resources you need to function in God’s destiny for your life. Grace is the lifting power of God which makes you accepted, preferred and celebrated.
Favor: meaning as a result you are lead toward those things that are best for you and for your life and destiny.
Gift: meaning as a result of this Grace working you will find the manifestation of gifts and talents through and in you. For instance when I got this thing working in me, the boy who was once clumsy and shy suddenly became bold and super accurate. From then onward I could dare to change my conversation and each time I was asked what my talent was my answer would always be “my talent is to have talents” because I had gained the ability to obtain any talent.
Advantage: meaning everywhere you go people’s functionality and actions are always in your favor, whether they are doing it willingly or unwillingly or consciously or subconsciously, their actions will always produce good for you. Grace puts you at an uneven playing field with the rest of the world and every time anyone is put in contest with you, you have the advantage in any and everything.
Joy: meaning when you function in Grace or have it working in your life, you will discover that joy will manifest in your life. And in any and every situation you find yourself in your heart is at peace, only finding joy in every situation.
Liberality: meaning a willingness to release gifts. When you have grace you no longer have any association with greed or any such thing. You have this willingness; this desire to release gifts to either fellow brothers or to the work of ministry. And remember that giving is closely associated with receiving too.
It’s super important that you get this thing working in your life.
HOW DO I GET IT WORKING IN MY LIFE?
Easy, just start acting on the word you’ve received concerning it just now.
“According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain to life and godliness, though the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue”
2 Peter 1:3
So what does that mean? If you want grace working in your life, get to know more of God’s word. Because you need to act on it for it to work and you can’t act on information you don’t know about.
One of the problems a lot of God’s children face is how to key in to God’s ability.
“And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:”
2 Corinthians 9:8
Now what does that mean?
Well firstly the word translated “sufficiency” there is the Greek word “autarkeia” (pronounced ow-tar’-ki-ah) meaning “self-satisfaction” or “competence”. It indicates one who is so sufficient that he requires no aid or support: you are so competent that you don’t require any help from anyone or anything. Now that’s the divine ability God is saying he can abound toward you in its fullness such that you are so sufficient, and competent in all things that you require no aid or support.
How would you like that working in your life? Think about it: sufficient in all things; competent in all things. I love something that Romans and 2nd Peter depict the impact and miracle working power of grace as:
“For if by one man’s offence death reigned (like a king) by one; much more they which receive (Greek “lambano” meaning “take a hold of”) abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.”
Romans 5:17
Now this shows just how powerful having something like grace working in your life. For as long as you have this working in your life then you too can say like Paul in Philippians 4:13 saying “I can do all things through Christ which strengthen and energizes me” because you know you can never be defeated by the crises of life; you know you are sufficient in all things.
Now here’s another of my personal favorite because it acts more as though a cheat code in that it tells you exactly how to get grace working in your life, and as we’ve just read in the scripture above: the more grace we receive (Greek “Lambano” meaning to “take possession of”), the greater you reign here on earth:
“Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus Christ our Lord”
2 Peter 1:2
That right there perfectly shows how to increase the grace working in your life: getting to know the word of God. Now this is wonderful but I’ll reserve the more long winded explanations for the book on grace.
So what? Get grace working in your life; we’ve discussed how to get it working; we’ve also discussed (as a bonus feature) how to increase the amount of grace working in your life. So again, a more detailed analogy is given in my book “Understanding Grace” so be sure to look out for that where we discuss so many more complex things concerning grace and as well have a more detailed breakdown of the six synonyms of grace.
So that’s pretty much about grace for now; that was number five right there so now we move on to number six.
